Last night, in his first address to a joint session of Congress, President Biden spoke directly to congressional leaders about the urgency to take action to end the public health crisis of gun violence. During these first 100 days of his presidency, President Biden has been committed to funding community violence prevention strategies by including $5 billion over eight years in the American Jobs Plan, prioritized $210 million in his 2022 budget and directed five cabinet-level agencies to modify 26 existing grant programs to prioritize community-based violence prevention strategies. 

In these same 100 days, our country has endured over 100 mass shootings, with most of these tragedies disproportionately impacting communities of color. Gun violence is not just a political issue: it is literally life or death for too many people of color in this country. 

 

The time for action could not be more urgent, and we are joining President Biden in asking that our congressional leaders take action now. 

 

We are calling on our congressional leaders to swiftly pass President Biden’s American Jobs Plan, and deliver the critical $5 billion investment to our communities.

 

We are also asking congressional leaders to prioritize that $210 million is included in the 2022 federal budget Appropriations process.
