ggjalliance.org Grassroots Global Justice Alliance joins Congressmembers and 100 groups to back national effort pushing President Biden and Congress for an equitable and just recovery WASHINGTON, D.C.—Grassroots Global Justice Alliance lauded the introduction of the THRIVE Act by Members of Congress today as a bold economic recovery that confronts interlocking racial, economic, and climate crises by investing in communities that have been harmed historically first and worst by these crises.
The THRIVE (Transform, Heal, Renew, and Invest in a Vibrant Economy) Act is a $10 trillion package to create 15 million good jobs, cut climate pollution in half by 2030, provide care to those in need, and advance racial, gender, Indigenous, economic, and environmental justice.
“Domestic Workers have been impacted by both the climate crisis and the COVID pandemic. In our state, California, during the past year we not only faced the devastation of COVID, but also endured the terrible wildfires. Many domestic workers were expected to work while being surrounded by fires and breathing smoke. Care workers have been understood as essential and have faced these crises on the frontlines. THRIVE will help domestic
workers and care workers get back on their feet to continue providing for their families and those most vulnerable in our communities,” said Sofia Bastida, Lead Organizer, Mujeres Unidas y Activas.
“The THRIVE Act represents a bold vision for addressing the immediate crises of the COVID pandemic and economic collapse at the same time as the ongoing crises of systemic racism and climate change. THRIVE reinvests in our frontline communities, confronts climate chaos by moving us toward alternatives, and prioritizes the care sector in an economic recovery. Whether
they were video chatting loved ones in critical care or teaching our children from afar, care workers have been the backbone of our society during this pandemic, and they have shown how important investing in social infrastructure is to both the recovery and our collective resilience. We must address the climate and economic crisis, and invest in care and public health, particularly in the communities that need it the most. The investments of the THRIVE Act are critical to a full-scale recovery that protects and uplifts all people,” said Margaret Kwateng, National Green New Deal Organizer of Grassroots Global Justice Alliance.
The THRIVE Act is an economic recovery plan developed by the Green New Deal Network, a multi-sector 50-state campaign, that is designed to direct green investments to the communities most harmed by pollution, climate crisis, and chronic economic and racial injustice. The bill would pave the way for hundreds of billions of dollars to be invested in care, public health, and social
infrastructure in addition to physical infrastructure, while advancing racial justice and Indigenous sovereignty.
