John — I'm reaching out to you today to share an important update on Brady's 2021 membership drive. We set a goal to recruit 10,000 new members, but right now we're still 3,372 folks short of our goal.

If you've been waiting for the right moment to go all in on the movement to end gun violence, this is it. You can rush a donation right now to become a 2021 Brady Member and join us in our work to save lives.

But if you're not ready just yet, I hope you'll keep reading. I want to share my story with you — and why this fight is so personal to me.

I'm a gun violence survivor and I came to Brady because it's led by gun violence survivors like me.

More than a decade ago, my brother Javad Fields agreed to serve as a witness in court after he witnessed a mass shooting and was shot in the leg. Fifteen days after graduating from college he and his fiancé Vivian were tragically murdered to prevent him from testifying. Losing Javad and Vivian gave me a clear sense of purpose: it pushed me to fight for the elimination of gun violence across our country. I realized that we can’t change what we’re unwilling to confront.

We need the community gun violence to stop. We need the mass shooting epidemic to stop. We need school shootings to stop. My brother's murder led me to speak out — because I never want another family to feel this pain or loss. But stopping these senseless tragedies hinges on everybody speaking out and demanding action.

2021 presents a unique opportunity, that's why I'm writing to you today. We have the power to end this country's gun violence epidemic — and Brady is working across Congress, courts, and communities to pass the gun safety legislation we know will save lives. But if we're going to overcome Mitch McConnell's callous inaction and the NRA's new $2 million disinformation campaign to block gun safety, we need you in this fight with us.

John, will you take action by joining Brady today? Every single dollar will fuel our survivor-led movement to pass common-sense gun safety legislation, like expanded background checks and an assault weapons ban. Donate $5 or more before our midnight deadline to activate your 2021 Brady Membership and save lives from gun violence.
