Join us on October 8 at the Supreme Court!

Friend:

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court will consider three significant cases that could take away federal protections for transgender, gay, lesbian and bisexual people – and I will be speaking from the steps of the courthouse to remind the Court that in the United States, religion cannot be used as a sword to harm others. Can I count on you to join us? Click here to RSVP if you plan to attend!

Join us at the Supreme Court on October 8th for #OurDayInCourt

When: Tuesday, October 8th, 8:30am to 12:30pm

Where: Steps of the U.S. Supreme Court
1 First St. NE, Washington, DC

The employers in these cases are asking the Supreme Court to rule that it is perfectly legal under federal law to fire workers because they are LGBTQ. That’s bad enough – but the cases go much further than that, and the Trump administration is wrongfully urging the Supreme Court to take away protections that impact every aspect of our lives – from employment and education, to housing and health care, and more.

The implications would be disastrous for LGBTQ people and everyone else. The goal of the Trump administration is to push us back to the days when employers can enforce sex stereotypes in the workplace and across society.

Much of the bias that LGBTQ people experience on a daily basis is deeply rooted in a narrow set of religious beliefs. But America is a diverse nation, governed by our shared secular laws, which means we cannot give exceptions to some religious groups that cause harm to others. No one’s rights in the United States should be determined by someone’s religious views, because discrimination is not religious freedom.

AU, along with dozens of our partner organizations, will be rallying on the steps of the Supreme Court as oral arguments in these cases get underway, and I will be speaking at the rally. Please join us on Tuesday morning to make your voice heard. Click here to RSVP.

See you there!
