. Hi John,
Today is a national People Powered Day of Action, and we need your help to advocate for a nonpartisan, transparent redistricting process in 2021.
It’s time to make our voices heard and show our support for a nonpartisan mapping process and to achieve voting districts that are representative of our communities and interests. Our goal is to send 10,000 emails to state senators and state assembly representatives, and we need your help! Wisconsin has a history of gerrymandered maps. Gerrymandering takes place when voting districts are drawn by a political party to give it an unfair advantage in elections. Wisconsin’s district maps have deprived our state of fair representation and silenced the voices of minorities.
Even with more than 70 percent of Wisconsin voters favoring an independent, nonpartisan commission to draw legislative districts, in 2011 the lawmakers in power ignored public opinion and gerrymandered the maps to stay in power.
By law, our state legislature is currently in the process of redrawing the maps after the 2020 census and we are working alongside democracy champions to ensure our maps are drawn fairly.
