Dear John,
Today marks 100 days of the Biden-Harris administration. Even in this short time, our union has accomplished a lot with this new leadership at the White House. It really feels like NOW is our time.
Just a few months into the new administration and Congress, we’ve already seen tremendous action to deliver on our top priorities. A few of these wins include rescinding the May 2018 executive orders, providing 15 weeks of paid leave related to COVID-19 for federal employees, removing union-busters from the Federal Service Impasses Panel, taking steps to control the COVID-19 pandemic in federal workplaces, and much more.
In word and in action, the Biden-Harris administration is fulfilling its promise to restore the integrity of the non-political civil service.
Today I published an opinion piece in The Hill to discuss the critical wins federal and D.C. government workers have achieved over the last 100 days. John, I encourage you to read my comments and know that we will continue to work with this administration to build upon our early success.
It's important for us to keep our foot on the gas and continue to work with the administration and our allies in Congress to improve the working conditions of federal and D.C. government employees. We also must educate our members and potential members on all we have accomplished after advocating tirelessly over the last four years against the illegal, anti-union, and anti-worker policies of the last administration.
Click here for a few tools you can share with your friends, family, and colleagues on what we can accomplish when we have officials and lawmakers in office who support federal and D.C. government workers and our unions.
We've come a long way, AFGE! And
we aren't done yet, but we can take a moment to reflect on our successes over
the last 100 days. Let’s continue to work together as we advocate for working
families and to take advantage of the fierce urgency of NOW to grow our union
and build our power.
In Solidarity,
Dr. Everett Kelley
AFGE National President
