John,
Help protect transgender kids from discrimination. [[link removed]]
The Law Center is working in the courts to support trans youth, and in the halls of Congress to get a federal Equality Act passed. We need you with us. The Equality Act would expand sex discrimination protections in our civil rights laws and provide additional civil rights protections in the face of the increased spate of anti-trans bills we’re seeing out of state legislatures—many of which target trans children and teens’ ability to access gender-affirming health care.
This is really important, John—please help NWLC push for civil rights enforcement in the courts and better laws to protect trans kids. Read my message below to learn more about what we’re up against, and please make a gift TODAY to help. [[link removed]]

Dear John,
For years, those in power around the country have tried to attack the rights of transgender people, often under the guise of "protecting women."
But of course, trans women are women . And the National Women's Law Center knows that the fight for gender justice MUST include trans people.
Unfortunately, right now, we are in the middle of horrifying wave of attacks in dozens of states, focused on the rights of transgender children and teens.
Lawmakers are trying to cut off trans kids from life-saving health care by punishing doctors who provide or refer patients to transition-related care for young people. Numerous states have bills pending that would ban trans girls from participating in school sports. And recently, Texas legislators proposed amending the state’s child abuse codes to include parents who support their child’s transition—meaning trans kids could be removed from their family’s custody.
This is cruel and outrageous, John. This is transphobia, pure and simple. This is a concerted effort to harm kids.
We will fight back when transphobic politicians attack trans youth. [[link removed]] While the National Women’s Law Center proudly supports trans students in the courts, we’re also pushing the Senate to take immediate action to ensure stronger civil rights protections for all trans people by passing the Equality Act. Please, John, will you join this fight with a donation today to support the National Women’s Law Center? We’re counting on our community to help us continue our work to enforce the law in the courts and to pass new laws in Congress. [[link removed]]

The Equality Act has already been passed in the House of Representatives, but needs more supporters in the Senate. This is a critical law for LGBTQ rights that would amend our nation’s civil rights laws to explicitly prevent discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. It also expands protections for all forms of sex discrimination.
John, when we say politicians have no business making decisions about what kind of medical care people can access, we mean that for everyone. For years, lawmakers have been passing laws to make it more difficult for people to get an abortion, to make it legal for health care providers to refuse care for transgender people, and to undermine the progress the
Affordable Care Act has made for millions of people. Now they’re going after trans children, their families, and their doctors.
The Law Center has led sign-on letters from women’s rights groups across the country opposing these attacks against trans youth, and we provided testimony in support of trans youth against harmful bills in South Dakota. In Idaho, we filed an amicus brief supporting the right of trans women and girls to participate in sports. For many years, the Law Center has supported trans youth in schools through amicus briefs in cases across the country to secure trans-inclusive policies and enforcement of civil rights. But we need still stronger federal protections for trans youth in the face of this onslaught of discriminatory legislation that is set on harming our trans young people.
We need to move quickly to push for the Equality Act, and also to keep fighting against these dangerous attacks in the states. Please donate today to fuel our fight for gender justice, including our efforts to protect trans kids and the right of every LGBTQ person to live without fear of prejudice because of who they are or who they love. Thank you for being with us and for supporting trans youth.
