Indoor Air Pollution from Gas

HELP US PHASE OUT NATURAL GAS!

To fix the climate crisis, we'll need to transition off of fossil fuels, including natural gas. Many homes in New York City have gas appliances such as furnaces and water heaters - all of which produce dangerous indoor air pollution.

What can you do about it? A simple phone call can work wonders!

Call 888-431-7599 and ask New York City Council Speaker Corey Johnson to introduce our legislation that will phase out the use of natural gas in new construction. Do it. Today. Please.

We are working on a pilot program to better understand how to decarbonize and electrify existing buildings, particularly those that provide affordable, and the health benefits of doing so.

But we also need to stop constructing new buildings that use natural gas. It's only making the problem worse. Natural gas is bad for the environment, and bad for people. And as we ramp up renewable energy that can produce safe, clean electricity, we will not need - or want - natural gas in our buildings.

More than 50 municipalities have already enacted similar legislation, including cities like San Francisco, Seattle, and Oakland. Our legislation can make this happen here in New York City, preventing the use of natural gas in new construction as early as 2022. And doing so will create good union jobs, which will be critical for our community as we emerge from the COVID-19 crisis.

But we need your help to make this happen. All you have to do is make one phone call. Leave Speaker Johnson a voicemail asking him to introduce our bill to phase out natural gas in new construction.

CALL 888-431-7599 AND ASK SPEAKER JOHNSON TO INTRODUCE OUR BILL TO PHASE OUT NATURAL GAS

Take action. Make the call. And breathe easier.
