Welcome to Thursday, April 29th, mustards and ketchups...
President Biden unveiled his $1.8 trillion American Families Plan during an address to Congress last night.
For the first time in history, two women flanked the president.
Full coverage of Biden's remarks can be found here ([link removed]) , but the material getting the most play is the American Families Plan. Here's what's in the proposal:
* Child care: Low- and middle-income families would pay no more than 7% of their income on child care for kids younger than age 5.
* Making community college free: $109 billion to make two years of community college free.
* Universal preschool: Three- and 4-year-olds would be eligible for universal preschool.
* Providing paid family and medical leave: Provide aid for workers with new children or a family illness. (Eventually up to $4,000 per week for 12 weeks.)
The plan would partially be paid for by lifting the top tax bracket to 39.6% from 37%.
"I will not impose any tax increase on people making less than $400,000. But it's time for corporate America and the wealthiest 1% of Americans to begin to pay their fair share. Just their fair share."

** EU May Allow Vaccinated American Tourists This Summer
------------------------------------------------------------
After a yearlong ban on most travel from the U.S. to the European Union, the European Commission's president, Ursula von der Leyen, plans to propose a policy for the E.U.'s 27 member states to accept visitors who have received E.U.-approved vaccines.

Even if von de Leyen's proposal passes, individual member states may reserve the right to keep strict limits in place, enforcing restrictions such as quarantines or not allowing citizens from outside the E.U. bloc to enter their countries.
The E.U.'s 27 member states include Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain, and Sweden.

** Waffle House
------------------------------------------------------------
Waffle House gets a hard "F" in animal welfare. The southern diner has done nothing to mitigate or eliminate the cruel and inhumane treatment of the pigs, chickens, and cows that make up its supply chain.

Waffle House received a score of -38.10% and shared the lowest ranking - #66 - with seven other offenders.
"Waffle House has no commitments that meaningfully address any of the most pressing concerns—and to our knowledge, it never has."
The report added:
"Moving forward, we encourage the company to: A) adopt meaningful policies regarding its pork, egg and chicken supply chains; and B) add a plant-based entrée to its menu."
