It was so exciting to cast my vote for Sian Berry to be the first Green
Mayor of London this week - and I hope you can have a similar feeling
either by post or on Thursday.
You probably already know - this election is different.
It's Proportional. But did you know that there's 3 different voting
systems on the same day?
Here's a quick explainer:
1) Pink - This will be for the London Mayor. You
will have two votes - which means that no vote is a wasted vote. It is
much safer to vote forSian Berry as your first vote and place your safety net as your second vote.
2) Yellow
- This will be for the West Central London constituency. This is
Hammersmith, Westminster and Kensington and Chelsea. I’m your candidate
for that - this one is tricky as it’s never been won by anything but one
of the two big establishment parties. This vote uses the First Past the
Post system.
3) Orange - This one is crucial. It’s the orange ballot paper which is for the 'Additional Member'. This system is Proportional and Greens can win. On this paper, you’re not ticking for an individual name but for the Green Party.
Other
parties have been determined to make sure that people don’t know about
these voting systems - so we’re making it our mission to make sure that
everyone knows this weekend what and how they’re voting. Can you help us
spread the message?
We’re going to be leafleting your local area
for one final time in these elections on Saturday 1st May. We have lots
to do - but the more people who volunteer, the less time it takes
everybody. For one final time this election, can you spare 1-2 hours to
come leaflet in a team? You can sign up here.
I’m so proud of how
we have run this election. I really hope the next time I write to you it
will be as a Green London Assembly Member and with a new start together
we can make London the Greenest city in the world.
Let’s do this!
Zack Polanski
London Assembly Candidate
P.S.
if you can help me on election day (Thu 6th May), we have a briefing on
Tuesday 4th May of how you can join me and help on the day to get the
vote out.Sign up here.
