I remember last year vividly. President Trump spewed NRA talking points to the American people during his State of the Union address – and his blind allegiance to the NRA and their deadly interpretation of the Second Amendment was something I couldn’t stomach. It was too much and in that moment I cried out: “What about victims of gun violence like my daughter?” I was escorted from the gallery and detained.

I have been fighting to pass common-sense gun safety legislation since my daughter, Jaime, was murdered along with 16 of her teachers and classmates at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in 2018. Her beautiful life and memory are what inspire me to keep moving forward, and what causes such a visceral reaction to lies and heinous inaction from our lawmakers. Thankfully, tonight’s presidential address looked very different.

Because of the tireless effort of survivors like me, my partners at Brady, and other gun violence prevention organizations, the American people heard President Biden urge Congress to immediately address gun violence in our country. This was a historic moment: No President has highlighted the need to prevent gun violence in their first address to Congress since 1993. Biden has proven himself to be a gun violence prevention champion time and time again – it’s why we elected him – and he knows that gun violence is an American epidemic that demands immediate action.

But John, if we are going to finally pass common-sense gun safety legislation, we need a groundswell of public support behind the President’s message – and we’re still missing your name. Will you join me, President Biden, and gun violence prevention advocates across the country in urging Congress to take immediate action against gun violence? Sign the petition now: [[link removed]]
