Another one bites the dust, John.
This week, GOP Representative Mac Thornberry announced he will not seek
re-election in 2020, making him the sixth Republican member of Congress to
declare retirement in recent weeks.
Republicans are dropping like flies in Texas because they see what’s
happening: their state is no longer a GOP stronghold. We can flip Texas
blue in 2020, and that includes the 23rd district where DFA-endorsed
progressive Democrat Gina Ortiz-Jones is fighting to make a comeback.
In 2018, Gina narrowly lost to Republican incumbent Will Hurd (who also
announced he’s not seeking re-election). She’s seeing a groundswell of
grassroots support: last quarter, she raised a massive $1 million. If
she’s going to succeed in flipping this seat, we’ve got to keep that
momentum up.
Let’s ensure Gina has another successful quarter of small-dollar
fundraising to fuel her campaign into 2020: pitch in a contribution of
$5 or more
to Gina and DFA now.

While we work to flip the Senate and White House in 2020, we can’t forget
to protect -- and expand -- our Democratic majority in the House.
Especially in states like Texas that are becoming more blue by the day.
And it’s critical we continue to send more progressive leaders like Gina
-- a woman of color, a veteran, a member of the LGBTQ community, and a
first-generation American -- to Washington.
Thanks for helping us flip TX-23 blue,
-Charles
