John—

President Biden just wrapped up his first joint address to Congress, and I was fortunate enough to be in the room as he outlined his bold, progressive vision for our country. I wanted to share a few quick thoughts with you this evening.

1.
President
Biden’s
American
Families
Plan
is
a
game-changer.
Universal
preschool.
Free
community
college.
Affordable,
high-quality
child
care.
An
investment
in
the
care
workforce.
Nutrition
assistance.
President
Biden’s
plan
recognizes
that
when
we
invest
in
American
children
and
American
families,
we
all
do
better.

2.
I’m
particularly
proud
to
see
the
American
Families
Plan
include
paid
family
and
medical
leave
proposals
modeled
after
my
FAMILY
Act.
This
is
something
I’ve
championed
for
almost
ten
years
now.
Tonight’s
speech
made
me
more
hopeful
than
ever
that
we
can
get
this
done—permanently.

3.
We
urgently
need
to
address
systemic
racism
in
our
criminal
justice
system,
and
I’m
grateful
that
President
Biden
used
tonight’s
speech
to
call
on
Congress
to
pass
the
George
Floyd
Justice
in
Policing
Act.
This
cannot
wait.

4.
The
American
Jobs
Plan
will
invest
in
repairing
our
crumbling
infrastructure—roads,
bridges,
airports
and
broadband.
I’m
glad
President
Biden
made
clear
these
investments
will
not
just
rebuild
our
country’s
infrastructure
and
create
jobs,
but
take
meaningful
action
to
address
climate
change.
It’s
a
relief
to
once
again
see
serious
leadership
out
of
the
White
House
on
climate
change.

I left the House floor this evening feeling more hopeful than ever. Thank you for staying in the fight.

-Kirsten
