Hi there,
Last week, Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced a new proposal to establish a bipartisan January 6 commission to investigate the Capitol riot -- and Attorney General Merrick Garland warned that domestic extremism is “still with us.”
The Justice Department has already charged nearly 400 insurrectionists and arrested 57 members of extremist groups like the Proud Boys, Oath Keepers, and Three Percenters for breaching the Capitol. New evidence suggests that these groups had a strategic plan to overthrow the election results by seizing the Capitol.
They used paramilitary gear and encrypted messaging to break in. They intentionally camouflaged their members to be undetectable to law enforcement. Leaders from the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers even banded together to plan the insurrection before January 6.
This wasn't “a rally that got out of hand.” This was planned, and as Garland warned, there will be more violence from domestic extremist groups if we don't act immediately.
Republicans have already once blocked Democratic efforts to establish an independent commission. Now Speaker Pelosi is reintroducing the initiative, and we want to make it clear to Congress that this is what the American people want -- that's why we're coming to our most engaged supporters.
Please, will you help us make this a priority for Congress and tell us:
Do you support establishing a January 6 commission?
We're truly grateful to have you on our side.
