Caucus with me
Dear John,
On Friday, the Yes 4 Minneapolis campaign will deliver over 20,000 signatures from Minneapolis voters who are ready to vote to amend our city’s charter and replace the Minneapolis Police Department with a new Department of Public Safety.
I’m so excited to see my city move to defend Black lives by reimagining and creating systems of public safety that will keep everyone safe and healthy. I also know that signing the people’s petition was just the first step.
To win our ballot initiative in November, we still need to organize and have conversations with folks who aren’t sure what this change would mean for them and their loved ones.
And when we win in November, we need to have elected officials in office who are ready to act boldly and co-govern with us to create public safety systems that will serve and protect all of us.
That’s why I’m going to sign up to attend my caucus and be a delegate in the convention for the first time this year, and I’d like you to come with me.
TakeAction Minnesota’s leadership assembly has endorsed an incredible slate of candidates for Minneapolis City Council. I live in Ward 10, and can’t think of a better person to go to bat for me and my community than Aisha Chughtai.
And while our leadership assembly hasn’t decided on mayoral endorsements yet, I know that I’m not alone in feeling that Jacob Frey’s “leadership” has been ineffectual at its best – and deeply violent at its worst.
We need change.
Our wonderful leader, Joey, recently reminded us that in this pivotal moment, we have more power than we realize. He also reminded us that none of this work needs to be done alone.
Ground yourself in your power to enact deep, bold, meaningful change, and sign up to attend your caucus and be a delegate in the convention. The deadline to register is FRIDAY. Let’s do this, together.
In solidarity,
Jessie
