John,
The federal government has used the 1033 program to sell over $7 billion-worth of military weapons to police forces around the country -- municipalities, state police, school and campus police, and more.
Back when President Obama was in office, he signed an executive order banning certain military equipment from being sold to law enforcement -- and President Biden was supposed to do the same.
Instead, President Biden let police groups talk him out of it.
For President Biden to behold himself to special interest groups like powerful police associations over the very people that showed up to the polls to put him in office is not just offensive, it's betrayal.
Throughout his entire campaign, President Biden made commitments to tackling systemic racism and promised to remedy his record that has negatively impacted Black people. This isn't rocket science -- military equipment in the hands of police in our communities means more violence against Black people. And with a stroke of a pen, President Biden can do something about it.
We've already sent thousands of letters to the President demanding that he #End1033.
But we're taking it one step further, and we hope you'll help: We're Twitter storming.
It's time that President Biden own up to his campaign promises -- and it's on us to make sure he does so. Use our easy tool to help us flood President Biden's Twitter, and tell him to #End1033 before his 100th day in office (THIS Friday)! >>
If President Biden wants to address systemic racism like he promised, it's time for his words to turn to action -- and we're going to hold him accountable for every single promise made.
Demilitarize the police. Demilitarize our schools. Demilitarize our communities and #End1033. Use our easy tool and take 1 minute to tweet President Biden and other government officials -- he's got until THIS FRIDAY to #End1033.
We'll never stop holding elected officials to their word -- especially when the future of Black lives is at stake.
In love and solidarity,
Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation
