Dear John,
Earlier this month, Project Censored aired a nationally syndicated radio interview that we recorded at the end of March. Host Mickey Huff invited my thoughts on a wide range of policy issues that corporate media outlets conveniently tend to ignore, including:
Predatory policing, which has attracted expanding controversy in the wake of continuing police murders across the country, and the militarized suppression of dissent and journalism;
The continuing coverup over CIA torture in which Nancy Pelosi is reportedly complicit, and a remarkable speech by Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) challenging a resulting—and ongoing—“constitutional crisis”;
The influence of our 2020 campaign, which forced the Speaker of the House to abandon previous positions opposing worker rights, executive accountability, policing reforms, limits on presidential war powers, and funding the U.S. Postal Service;
Pelosi’s refusal to debate since Ronald Reagan was in the White House; and
What “Any Blue Will Do” gets us.
Can you stand with us to help expand the policy debate and continue forcing change on a reluctant corporate Democratic establishment?
How many news outlets have covered these issues? Among the rare few that have heeded the long ignored concerns of communities, fewer still do the hard work of exposing the policy records of incumbents who continue to govern by theater and photo opportunity.
That’s why we’re grateful for forums like Project Censored, which in 2017 published a book chapter that I wrote about bipartisan authoritarianism, militarized policing, CIA torture, surveillance from the NSA to local police, and the government secrecy that enables those abuses.
Can we count on your support to continue raising these issues? Without a party’s support, we rely entirely on the support of grassroots donors like you and are eager to finish the job we started together.
Are you tired of militarized policing and the predictable wave of state violence with impunity that continues across the country? As I said in our latest interview with Project Censored:
“Any blue will not necessarily do….[I]t is precisely the set of issues where Democrats support Republican policies that force our communities into the streets….[W]e all took to the streets to say we have to end Qualified Immunity, as I proposed to do in 2018, before the murder of George Floyd and before Qualified Immunity became a widely understood issue….That was taken directly from the demands of the movement that I’ve been a part of since even before the Ferguson uprising [of 2014].”
Many today are rightfully concerned about the slow pace of change in our democracy. Having actively challenged the intersections of militarism, racism, and capitalism for nearly 20 years, I explained that:
“The time it takes to create change [is driven by] the limits of career politicians and their willingness to stand with communities. It takes communities growing voices to replace those figures. I represent a voice from the Occupy movement, the antiwar movement, the immigrant rights movement, the movement for black lives challenging the corporate center that continues to marginalize...civil rights, peace & justice, climate justice….Our predatory corporate policies, if not stopped, are going to drive our species off a cliff.”
We’re here to end and reverse the corporate rule that threatens humanity’s future.
Will you take a stand with us? Your support can make the greatest difference at this crucial stage.
Thanks for being a part of our campaign! The future needs all of our voices, and we’re grateful to stand alongside your’s.
In solidarity with the future,
Shahid
