John,
During the pandemic, millions of families have been stretched financially, and far too many children have fallen through the cracks, jeopardizing their future.
Tonight, President Biden will address a joint session of Congress, outlining the next battles we must urgently wage as a nation. At CHN, we’re fighting to ensure the needs of millions of children, youth, and families are included in Congress' next big tax and investment plan. And we are going to make sure that Corporate America and the rich finally pay their fair share.
Help us bring the new graphic, below, to millions of people and build support for a legislative agenda that supports our children and youth. Donate today to demand Congress immediately address the needs of children.
Our nation’s most precious resource is its children. But the pandemic has harmed millions of children, subjecting them to hunger, threatening loss of their families’ homes, and disrupting their education.
Worse, these hardships disproportionately impact communities of color and rural and other poor communities who lack access to technology, high speed internet, transportation, and whose families have lost income and employment over the last year.
Poverty was already far too high among U.S. children before the pandemic. Poverty is highest among the youngest children, and differs dramatically by race and ethnicity. In 2019, one in four Black children and one in five Hispanic children were poor; in comparison, one in 12 white children lived in poverty.
We must do better.
The short-term assistance provided in the American Rescue Plan is doing tremendous good. Together, its provisions will cut child poverty by more than half in 2021, with the expansion of the Child Tax Credit playing a big part, according to Columbia University poverty researchers.
But we have more work to do.
As the President outlines his $1.8 trillion American Families Plan this evening, we must keep attention focused on the needs of children who have lost so much during this terrible pandemic. It will not be easy to build on and enact President Biden’s historic investments, but if we work hard to build support, we have a real chance of once-in-a-generation progress.
Donate today to build support for President Biden's historic proposals to invest in economic security, health, and education for children and youth now.
Our children’s future―from the newborn to the young adult seeking employment―is in jeopardy. We must reverse and eliminate the widening gap between children in rural and urban communities and children in more affluent communities.
Thank you for all you do to fight for a future that includes all of our children and youth.
