Earlier this week 16 Senators joined Senator Bernie Sanders in calling on President Biden to include Medicare expansion as part of the American Families Plan.

This letter asks President Biden to reduce the Medicare eligibility age, negotiate lower drug prices, implement a cap on out-of-pocket expenses under traditional Medicare, and expand Medicare benefits to include hearing, dental, and vision care.

Each one of these reforms would immediately help the millions of older Americans that are uninsured or underinsured, even after the passage of the American Rescue Plan Act.

The bottom line is that for years private insurance companies have successfully fought to keep our broken health care system in place simply in the name of maximizing their profits.

But with Democrats in control of the House, Senate, and White House we have a real opportunity to achieve much-needed reform right now, but the fight to get these reforms included in this important legislation is not going to be an easy one.

Insurance and drug company lobbyists are already lining up in opposition and spending millions to keep it out. It's going to take a huge groundswell of support from people all across this country to include these reforms as part of the American Families Plan.

Expanding and improving Medicare will go a long way in helping millions of older Americans receive the health care they need.

From reducing health care costs and prescription drug prices to helping the 70 percent of senior citizens that do not have dental insurance, we can make the most significant expansion of Medicare since it was signed into law a reality if we are willing to fight for it.

We must fight against the private health insurance companies that do not want to see Medicare expansion included as part of the American Families Plan.

Demand that President Biden include Medicare expansion as part of the American Families Plan.

Right now, The American Families Plan will include investments in child care, paid family leave, and education, all highly important issues that must be addressed.

But there aren’t any plans to include expansions and improvements to Medicare, despite it being one of the most successful and popular federal programs in our nation’s history.

We can make it happen if we take action together.
