Hi John,
We may finally have a competent president, we are seeing a light at the end of the pandemic tunnel, but I am still angry as hell -- because I've never tolerated bullies.
And that's what the Republicans who are introducing anti-trans youth bills in state legislatures across the country are: bullies.
In 33 states, they've introduced over 100 anti-trans laws -- according to the Human Rights Campaign, it's the highest they've ever recorded in a given year.
It's a bigoted campaign targeting some of the most vulnerable members in our communities --
kids -- to score political points with Republicans' Fox News-chugging base.
We can sign and send petitions and letters to state leaders (and we absolutely
must). But if we really want to put an end to these disgusting bills and protect trans people, we need to elect more progressive allies and progressive trans people to power.
That's where we, the Run for Something community, come in. Together, we can defeat these bullies and replace them with young progressives who will protect trans kids -- will you chip in towards RFS's end-of-month deadline to make an impact?

Run for Something is proud to have helped 4 trans women win power, a small but important part of making this country safer for trans people.
In 2018,
Virginia state Delegate Danica Roem became the first openly trans state legislator in the state. This year, she introduced legislation to outlaw the “trans panic defense,” making Virginia the only Southern state to do so.
In 2019,
Colorado state Representative Brianna Titone became the first openly trans state legislator elected in the state's history. This month, the Colorado state House passed a long-overdue anti-discrimination bill, despite a Republican filibuster. Brianna oversaw the floor debate.
In 2021,
Vermont state Representative Taylor Small became the first trans person to be elected in the state's history. This month, she introduced legislation in the state House to ban the "trans panic defense.”
Also in 2021,
Delaware state Senator Sarah McBride won office and became the highest-ranking openly trans elected official in the nation.
But in the entire nation, there are only 9 openly trans, nonbinary, or genderqueer people in state legislatures. It's an abysmal level of representation -- that's why Run for Something's dedicated to recruiting and electing
a lot more trans folks to
every office.
We're only getting started, John. If you're pissed about these bills and you want to help elect leaders who will treat all of our neighbors with respect, protect us from violence and bigotry, and ensure terrible laws never see the light of day -- chip in $5 towards our end-of-month fundraising goal.
Thank you -- let's show these Republican bullies we won't let them get away with hurting trans kids,
Amanda Litman
