Last week’s victory for justice reinforced our resolve, but it will not silence our outcry.

According to the Police Integrity Research Group, ninety-eight state and local law enforcement officers have been arrested in connection with fatal shootings since 2005.

To date, only thirty-five of these officers have been convicted. None of the officers were convicted of murder. The system is broken. 

In George Floyd’s case, the system acknowledged the value of his humanity and held the officer accountable for taking his life. While this is a refreshing departure from the norm, we must recognize that this is only the beginning of a much-needed and long-overdue conversation on racial justice.

Whether it’s securing relief from COVID-19 that our people on the inside need, pushing for moratoriums on legal system-related debt owed to state governments, or passing bills that stand up for the dignity of incarcerated women, Dream Corps JUSTICE has big plans for the rest of the year -and we need your help shaping our campaigns and policy priorities.

That’s why we’re inviting you to join us on May 5th at 7 pm ET / 4 pm PT for our monthly State of JUSTICE town hall. Join us as we share a space to process the events of last week and learn from directly impacted Empathy Network leaders who are transforming justice.

Hear from Tarra Simmons, a lawyer, a civil rights activist, and a national leader in the fight for criminal justice who was instrumental in passing the New Hope Act, a bipartisan re-entry bill. Tarra is a trailblazer - the first formerly incarcerated person ever elected to the Washington legislature. 

You’ll also hear from Nicole Lewis, an investigative journalist at the Marshall Project who has been breaking major stories about the spread of COVID throughout U.S. prisons.

Most importantly, you can help us shape campaigns to pass federal, state, and local criminal justice reform. 

Dream Corps JUSTICE exists to safely cut incarceration rates and improve the lives of individuals impacted by the justice system. With our Empathy Network of grassroots leaders and new members like you, we will double down on our existing campaigns and take the lead on critical criminal justice reform.
