Critical Legislation for Homelessness and Housing Moves Ahead!

Assemblymember Rivas presenting AB 71

Last week, AB 71 (Rivas) passed the Assembly Revenue and Taxation Committee. This is a critical bill that will create a $2.4 billion annual allocation for homelessness and housing by increasing corporate tax rates. AB 71 now heads to the Assembly Housing and Community Development committee for review on Thursday, April 29. Call the Assembly Housing & Community Development Committee and tell them you support AB 71.

In addition to AB 71, AB 528 (Wicks) also advanced out of the Assembly Revenue and Tax Committee on a strong 7-4 vote and now heads to Assembly Appropriations. We need your help moving these critical housing policies forward in California. Endorse our priority legislation now! Your endorsement of NPH's priority bills helps us demonstrate the need for affordable housing solutions now.

Affordable Housing REGULATORY and Funding Updates

The California Debt Limit Allocating Committee (CDLAC) will be meeting today to adopt a revised set of regulations that will set the rules for how affordable housing funding is allocated throughout the state in 2021. The Bay Area Legislative Caucus sent in a letter outlining their concerns with the regulations as they have been adopted to date and are calling for revisions so that the Bay Area can get its fair share of affordable housing resources.

On the federal level, The Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act was introduced earlier this month. If passed, the AHCIA will double California’s affordable housing production in 2021 and 2022 as well as increase California’s affordable housing production by 329,500 units over the next 10 years. You can learn more about it here. The AHCIA is NPH's #1 federal priority and we are currently working to meet with our federal representatives to also endorse the act.

Contact NPH Policy Director, Pedro Galvao, for ways that you can get involved.
