Hello there, we have good news:

House Democrats have just passed legislation to make Washington, D.C. our 51st state and grant over 700,000 D.C. residents proper representation in Congress.

But as NBC News reports, Mitch McConnell and his fellow Republicans are doing everything they can to block statehood for D.C. indefinitely. The reason? “Any congressional representation would almost certainly be Democratic.”

McConnell and the GOP have spent decades denying the American people the political representation they deserve. Whether through voter suppression tactics or by denying over 700,000 American citizens their constitutional rights -- Republicans have stayed in power by subverting our democracy.

Listen, D.C. residents, a majority who are Black and Brown Americans, pay more in taxes than 21 states and have a larger population than that of two states. During the Capitol insurrection, D.C.'s mayor couldn't activate the National Guard -- leaving Capitol police to fend for themselves while Trump ignored calls for backup.

We know it's going to be an uphill fight for D.C. residents to gain their rightful voice in Congress -- especially when Republicans have the filibuster to block statehood efforts. But that's why today, we need to know if our supporters will stand with us in urging Congress to act. Please, let us know now where you stand:

Do you support statehood for D.C.?
