Today, two of President Biden’s judicial nominees, Ketanji Brown Jackson for the DC Circuit and Candace Jackson-Akiwumi for 7th Circuit Court of Appeals, are having their confirmation hearing in the Senate and grassroots activists from across the country are mobilizing for a national call-in day to support their nomination!
Ketanji Brown Jackson brings to the bench the critically important experience of having served as an assistant federal public defender, representing people who were accused of crimes but who couldn’t afford a lawyer.
The D.C. Circuit is often viewed as a steppingstone to the U.S. Supreme Court, and the significance of President Biden nominating Ketanji Brown Jackson to the D.C. Circuit Court cannot be overstated. Judge Jackson’s brilliance, her commitment to justice, and her years of experience both on and off the bench make her extremely well qualified to serve on this critically important federal court.
Candace Jackson-Akiwumi’s entire career demonstrates a pattern of excellence and a commitment to equal justice. She has extensive service as a public defender and has dedicated her career to giving vital legal assistance to disadvantaged people in the areas of adoption, civil rights, criminal law, and immigration.
