John,
As our country works to recover from record unemployment and works to end the COVID-19 pandemic, our communities are still in need of immediate economic relief. So many folks have to make the impossible choice between keeping a roof over their heads and putting food on the table or making their student loan payments.
That’s why Rep. Jamaal Bowman and a number of other powerhouse legislators are banding together to urge the Biden-Harris administration to follow through on their campaign promise and work to cancel up to $50,000 in debt for federal student loan borrowers.
If you’re ready to join Jamaal and a coalition of activists in the fight to cancel student loan debt, add your name to our petition to help us amplify our call to the Biden-Harris administration and bring much-needed financial relief to millions.

The Biden-Harris administration has the power to substantially cancel student loan debt with executive authority under the Higher Education Act.
In the midst of a global health pandemic and a financial crisis, the weight of additional student loan debt can be crushing for the working folks of our nation. Currently, 45 million Americans are being held financially hostage by their student loans — totalling more than $1.6 trillion in student loan debt. $89.5 billion of this debt comes from the outstanding student loans of 2.4 million New York state residents.
Canceling student loan debt is not only rooted in economic justice, but also racial justice as Black people in the U.S. owe an average $25,000 more in student loan debt than their white peers. By cancelling these massive and prohibitive amounts of debt, we can finally work towards closing the racial wealth gap while also paving the way for equitable economic recovery from Covid-19.
It’s so important that we continue putting the pressure on the executive administration to ensure that they keep their campaign promises.
Add your name to our petition today and join us to demand that student debt be cancelled.
In solidarity,
