Poll shows intense support among Louisiana residents for requiring concealed carry permits

Baton Rouge -- In light of Louisiana State Legislature bills aimed at eliminating concealed carry permits, a new poll conducted by ALG Research shows Louisiana residents intensely prefer permits be required to carry concealed weapons. It showed 80% of Louisiana residents favor concealed carry permits and training, including 73% of Republicans surveyed.

"As a gun owner and outdoor enthusiast I support the 2nd Amendment as much as anyone. I also agree with 80% of the people in Louisiana who think it is good public policy to require training and a permit to carry a concealed weapon in our state," said Trey Ourso, Director of A Stronger Louisiana. "I also agree with local law enforcement who believe this policy is the right thing for public safety. If you need training and a license to drive a car or to hunt, it only makes sense that you'd need to do the same to carry a concealed firearm."

Louisiana residents are familiar with many things that require permits or licenses with proof of training including driving, piloting an airplane, practicing medicine, arranging flowers, hunting, plumbing, styling hair, or piloting a ship.

A Stronger Louisiana was founded in 2020 following the monumental re-election of Governor John Bel Edwards. The group is committed to advocating for bipartisan solutions to address Louisiana's most difficult challenges and to support the agenda of Gov. Edwards.
