A’shanti was on C-SPAN a few weeks ago, and I’m still thinking about the questions she took from viewers.

She was on for 45 minutes, so if you didn’t catch the whole thing here are just a few of the questions she received.

Joseph from Florida asked, “Are Black women strong enough to serve in office?”

Teddy from Virginia asked, “If someone calls you a colored person, why would you get upset by that?”

Scott from Georgia asked “Why do we have to label Black, Brown, White, or Asian? It makes me uncomfortable.”

I’m sure you get the point.

Even though Trump is no longer in office, the bigotry and racism that he so openly encouraged and instigated is still thriving — now is not the time for complacency. So/NAME, we’re asking, will you contribute now to train and elect women who will be the firewall in pushing back?

The Boot Camps we hold aren’t just about the cutting-edge curriculum, they’re about building the bench, and growing our national community of game changers and leaders.

The questions put to A’shanti remind us just how much work we have to do before Black, Brown, Asian, Indigenous, and all women of color serving in elected office are seen as the norm and not the exception.

And these questions underscore just how critical our training is. Can you help us close the budget gap on our Midwest Boot Camp with a contribution today? [link removed]

We’re so grateful for your support!
Alisha

This email was sent to [email protected]. Emerge is a national organization working to recruit, train, and get Democratic women elected across the country, and we are so grateful to have you on our team. Our alums are strong voices for Democratic values — and they are working to bring their values up and down the ballot to fight for working families. They are fighting for critical issues that affect our communities like the environment, accessible and affordable healthcare, social justice and education equity. We need more alums fighting for us across the country.

Email is the best way for us to keep you informed about what’s happening with our work. You may notice that we send a lot of emails asking for your support—that’s because we win when everyone does what they can to help. Our organization depends on thousands of actual people who care about our democracy and want to see positive change in our communities and across our country by building power through investing in Democratic women.
