Dear John,
On Workers Memorial Day, we remember all those who have suffered and died on the job.
As the hospitality workers’ union, our members are on the front lines welcoming travelers, preparing meals, and cleaning guest rooms.
Hundreds of UNITE HERE members and thousands more in our industries have died due to COVID-19 exposure. Moreover, a majority of our members come from underserved neighborhoods and communities of color hit hardest by the pandemic.
Together in UNITE HERE we’ve been able to fight back, negotiating safety protections for workers across the U.S. and Canada.
Unfortunately, most workers—including millions in the hospitality industry—don’t have the protections that come through a union contract, with no voice to negotiate when employers choose to prioritize their bottom line over their workers’ safety.
Unions are, and will always be, working people coming together to demand safer working conditions. We need to ensure that future generations have a strong voice in the workplace. That every worker has the tools to demand safety at work.
Worker safety and worker voice go hand in hand. And that’s why on this Workers Memorial Day, we are asking our senators to vote YES on the PRO Act.
Today, we remember. Today, we act.
In Solidarity,
D. Taylor
President, UNITE HERE
