John -- A couple of days ago, A.G. Holder wrote to you about Apportionment Day and how it represents a new phase in our fight for fair maps. Today I want to go into greater depth and explain how the GOP's strategy stacks up against ours. This is going to be a detailed email, so if you're already on board and want to contribute to our end-of-month goal, you can do that here.

THEIR GAME PLAN:

Republicans have been very open about their goal for 2021 redistricting: They intend to “secure a decade of conservative power,” according to the president of the Republican State Leadership Committee.

Their strategy is the same as in 2011 -- win majorities in the U.S. House and state legislatures by making seats less responsive to the voters. Pack and crack communities of color into Republican-leaning districts and limit Democratic representation to urban centers.

OUR GAME PLAN:

Preventing Republicans from gerrymandering won't be easy, especially in states where they control the process. So we've come up with the multi-pronged strategy.

First, we’re engaging the American people in the redistricting process to force transparency and secure truly representative maps. Second, where necessary, the NDRC will support plaintiffs in lawsuits to protect states’ redistricting processes from manipulation and fight for fair results. And third, we’re making sure that elected officials know they will be held accountable for their actions during redistricting in the 2022 elections.

THE APRIL END-OF-MONTH DEADLINE:

Here's the part where I ask for your help, friend. Apportionment Day kicked off the most intense phase of the redistricting fight to date. The NDRC has committed to working on the ground in 15 states -- in addition to our federal work to pass the For the People Act -- to make sure Republicans can't manipulate the maps. But in order to win victories in all of them, we need resources, and that's where our $60,000 end-of-month goal comes in.

If you can and only if you can, will you make a donation before Friday's deadline to help us execute our multi-pronged strategy and defeat Republican gerrymandering across the country?

Gratefully,
Kelly Burton
President

A.G. Holder: If the NDRC is successful in undoing manipulated maps, we will be able to achieve a system in which everyone's vote counts.

Since 2017, the NDRC has executed a comprehensive redistricting strategy that shifts the redistricting power, creating fair districts where Democrats can compete. Our victories have been made possible by our strong community of grassroots supporters.
