Dear John, |
Tomorrow night, President Biden will deliver his first address to a joint session of Congress. This is an opportunity for the President to lay out his vision for America and the priorities he intends to tackle.
And the National Committee will be listening carefully to ensure that he reaffirms his campaign promises to protect and strengthen Social Security and Medicare.
Right now, millions of older Americans are deeply concerned about their ability to make their monthly Social Security benefit check stretch to cover soaring out-of-pocket health care costs and expenses like rent, groceries, gas and utilities.
We need the President to take this opportunity to reassure workers and retirees that policies coming out of his Administration will reject the status quo that for too long have targeted earned benefits to pay for other fiscal priorities … especially when Big Pharma, Wall Street CEOs and huge insurance companies are clamoring to force benefits onto the chopping block in Washington.
As you know, seniors are counting on their earned benefits to stay healthy and financially secure.
That’s why the National Committee is putting pressure on President Biden to support legislation that boosts Social Security; expands Medicare to include dental, hearing and vision coverage; lowers prescription drug costs; and makes the wealthy pay their fair share into the Social Security program.
President Biden must make it clear in words and actions that he will follow through on his promise to strengthen Social Security and Medicare — and that he will make good on his pledge to reduce soaring prescription drug costs in America.
As the leading advocacy organization in the country fighting to protect our nation’s social safety net programs, rest assured that we at the National Committee will continue to put pressure on President Biden and remind him that he is well positioned to safeguard Social Security and Medicare for current and future generations of Americans.
Sincerely, |
|
