The American Rescue Plan that just passed in March 2021 made some great
strides toward reining in health care costs and making our health care
system more equitable, but we still have a long way to go! Let’s build on
this momentum and make our health care system more equitable and
affordable for all families.

Thanks for all you do!

Dear Friend,

“Being a single mom, I wouldn’t have been able to afford health insurance
without the Affordable Care Act. Now, thanks to the American Rescue Plan
my premium went down by $30/month!” - Trish, mom of 2, in Raleigh, NC

Momentum is building for a better health care system! The American Rescue
Plan, which passed in March, provides 14.9 million Americans with
additional financial support to buy health care coverage and over half of
those who enroll through HealthCare.gov will be able to buy a Silver plan
for $10 or less per month. [1] Additionally, it begins to address racial
health inequities in historically uninsured communities—especially those
with significant health disparities—by expanding coverage, reducing costs,
and initiatives to address social determinants of health including
housing, food assistance, and clean water. [ [link removed] ]

The American Rescue Plan has shown us that progress is possible when it
comes to reining in the high cost of health care in the United States. We
need Congress to capitalize on that momentum and take further action to
lower health care costs across the board for our families.

What’s happening? The American Rescue Plan was a great step in the right
direction to reduce health care costs, expand access to insurance
coverage, and address health care disparities. [ [link removed] ] In fact, it was the
largest expansion of health care coverage since the Affordable Care Act
passed in 2009. [ [link removed] ] But there is still much work to be done to make sure
that everyone in the United States is able to access quality, affordable,
culturally competent care. Right now, Congress has the chance to take bold
leadership and make legislative changes that would re-imagine our health
care system in a more fair, just, and equitable way.

The time is NOW to make sure the nearly 30 million uninsured people under
the age of 65 in the U.S. have health care coverage. Most of those who are
uninsured have at least one worker in their household and lack coverage
because the cost is still too high. [ [link removed] ] In addition, health disparities
for families of color, and people who are LGBTQ+ or have a disabling
condition must also be addressed. This will not only help people
individually and make for a more equitable health care system, but it will
also improve the overall quality of care and population health. [ [link removed] ]

petition that reads:

Dear Congress,

The American Rescue Plan was a great first step to begin to rein in health
care costs and make our health care system more equitable, but there is
still much work that needs to be done. We ask you to take big, bold, and
powerful action to transform our health care system so that it works well
for all of our families. This means:

* Reducing health care costs across the board, including pharmaceutical
prices, so that every person has access to the care they need.
* Centering and ensuring equitable access to quality, culturally
competent care in all of your decisions.
* Addressing health care disparities for communities of color, LGBTQ+
people, immigrants, and those living with a disabling condition or who
are medically fragile.
* Eliminating the Medicaid “coverage gap” and enrolling people who are
uninsured automatically into a public health care plan.

The COVID-19 pandemic has shown us that each person’s individual health
impacts the health of our communities. Everyone should have access to
quality, affordable, culturally competent health care and we need you to
take action. Our health, the health of our families, and the health of our
nation cannot wait.
