A message from founding co-editor Robert Kuttner:
When we founded the Prospect in 1989, the idea was to have a magazine
serious about ideas and serious about politics and power. Several recent
pieces live up to that dream.
Our prodigious executive editor, David Dayen, wrote a virtuoso piece,
Islands in the Stream
,
that connects David's encyclopedic knowledge about economic
concentration to his passion for popular music. I learned some things
from that deeply reported piece that I didn't know I didn't know.
Our deputy editor Gabrielle Gurley's article on water privatization
politics
connects the story of a small city's fiscal distress to a predatory
industry seeking to turn water from a public good into a commodity. It's
part of the larger story of one great struggle of our time - to keep
the largest corporations from destroying everything else that matters.
"Only connect," the novelist E.M. Forster famously wrote. The Prospect
makes reportorial and analytical and political connections, and helps
you gain useful insights. I hope you will connect with the Prospect more
deeply, and help us to bring you many more articles like these.
We depend on your support to tell stories that matter,
with a tenacious focus on Ideas, Politics, and Power
