As our fight for Medicare for All (no-cost health care guaranteed as a human right to every single person in this country) continues, we have a chance to take a giant step towards single payer health care in President Biden’s next economic package. But we need to put pressure on the White House to make it happen.
President Biden said during his campaign that he wanted to lower the Medicare eligibility age. But now, reports say lowering the Medicare age may be left OUT of his next big economic bill. That’s why I led a letter signed by more than 80 lawmakers from across the Democratic party that urges President Biden to immediately expand Medicare by lowering the eligibility age and improving benefits to include things like dental, vision, and hearing.
Lowering the Medicare age would provide immediate coverage for millions of people. President Biden can do this in his next big piece of legislation, and we need to keep the pressure on until he does. Join our push to make this big step towards single payer health care a reality with a donation of $3 today.
As you know, I supported Bernie Sanders in the Democratic presidential primary because we both believe in guaranteeing health care as a human right by passing Medicare for All. President Biden didn’t support Medicare for All, but he did publicly endorse lowering the Medicare eligibility age during his campaign.
Millions of working people who relied on our broken, for-profit health care system have lost their insurance during this pandemic because they lost their job. Lowering the Medicare age to 55 would expand Medicare coverage to more than 40 million people. And expanding what Medicare covers would finally give people much needed coverage to see the dentist, get hearing aids, and afford a new pair of glasses.
Expanding Medicare and its benefits will get us closer to a system where everyone is covered under Medicare for All.
In solidarity,
Pramila
