After months of delay, we finally have an update to share with you on the 2020 US Census.
Hi John — we wanted to share this quick update on the 2020 US Census with you:
After months of delay, the Census Bureau finally announced the final count of the population of the US — and with it, states' congressional and state legislative districts for the next decade.
Unfortunately, just as early data predicted, New York lost a seat in the House.
Right now, the single best thing we can do is to get ready for whatever could come our way. We need to make sure that our campaign's fundraising continues to be as robust as possible, and that we can continue making the key investments we need to grow our movement and build our progressive coalition.
That's why we've set a goal of raising an additional $7,500 over email before the end of April — and we need as many people as possible to chip in now. Can you make a donation of any amount? (Our average gift this month is $16.59.)

John, when we say that we need to be prepared for whatever could come our way after redistricting, we mean it:
- 70% of the House seats in New York are held by Democrats; depending on how boundaries are drawn, our district could be prime for a split.
- As a result, Jamaal may be forced to go up against challengers in a primary election to keep his seat.
- Our district could also be redrawn to include more Republicans — and Jamaal could face tough, GOP-funded challengers in the midterms.
- And perhaps most critically: the decision makers who determine the new district boundaries in New York state endorsed Jamaal's establishment opponent in the 2020 primary election.
The future may be uncertain, but one thing isn't: we absolutely need your support today to make sure we can stay ready for any and all fights ahead, John.
Please, chip in whatever you're able to our campaign, and help us reach our $7,500 email fundraising goal by midnight on Friday, April 30. Thank you.
More soon,
Team Bowman
