Hi,
Today marks two years since a synagogue in our district, Chabad of Poway, became the target of a horrific shooting which shocked and frightened our community.
This tragic event, like so many others which have rocked our country, can be linked back to one of the largest shared threats our country faces: violent domestic extremism.
The rise of extremism in our country is not new, but it is spreading faster than ever before — and the hate-based attacks we’ve endured are only becoming more commonplace. It’s maddening to lose so many lives because of the increased threat of extremism in our country, and I promise to continue fighting to provide the resources necessary to keep all Americans safe.
It’s time we prioritize legislation to protect our communities and help stop the spread of violent extremism in our nation. Together, we must make it known that antisemitism, racism, LGBTQ+ discrimination, and other forms of hate-based violence have no place in our country.
Events of the past year have made it even more evident that we must take immediate action to help stop the spread of extremism online and at home. Our most vulnerable communities are depending on it.
This is not a partisan issue — it’s an American issue, and together we can stop violent extremism from spreading even further across the nation.
My heart is with the Chabad of Poway community and all those whose lives were changed that day.
Scott
