Dear John,
Today, the U.S. Supreme Court decided to review an erroneous lower court decision on abortion. In the case — called June Medical Services v. Gee — Louisiana is defending an anti-abortion law virtually identical to a Texas law struck down by the Court just three years ago. This should be a no-brainer — the Court should follow its precedent, strike down the law, and protect our rights.
But that doesn’t mean anti-abortion state politicians will give up. They will keep trying to pass laws designed to eliminate access to abortion care.
This past year, we’ve seen anti-abortion politicians pass abortion ban after abortion ban in different states at alarming rates. And we know clinic shutdown laws like the Louisiana law are designed to push abortion care further out of reach for those of us who struggle to access it the most. The end game for these anti-abortion extremists is clear: end abortion at any cost. That’s why we need Congress to pass the Women’s Health Protection Act — a bill that would prevent politicians from controlling our reproductive freedoms.
Congress has an important role to play in ensuring that our ability to make personal health care decisions is not hindered by dangerous abortion laws.
Urge your lawmakers to support the Women’s Health Protection Act today.
Thank you for everything you do for abortion rights,
