Tomorrow, the Executive Director of the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence Josh Horwitz will be testifying before the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution. In the “Extreme Risk Order" hearing chaired by Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), Josh will explain the origins of Extreme Risk Protection Order (ERPO) laws and share evidence about their use as life saving tools with senators on the committee.
In 2013, Josh brought together a group of gun violence prevention researchers and academics to study methods to prevent individuals at risk of harming themselves or others from gaining access to firearms. The Consortium for Risk-Based Firearm Policy, as it came to be known, developed the modern ERPO law that built on existing laws in Connecticut and Indiana.
Since then, CSGV has been instrumental in helping pass, enact, and implement these laws in 17 more states and the District of Columbia.
