John,
President Biden’s American Families Plan is an opportunity to patch the holes in America’s care infrastructure―especially Medicare.
Namely: Medicare doesn’t cover dental, hearing, or vision benefits. And because there’s no out-of-pocket cap on expenses, Medicare costs for seniors can spiral out of control. That’s why Social Security Works is calling for President Biden to expand Medicare in the American Families Plan!
17 Senators―from Medicare for All champions like Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren to establishment types like Dick Durbin and Ben Cardin―are calling on President Biden to expand Medicare! We’re going to make sure he does! Chip in $7 today!
These 17 Senators sent President Biden a letter outlining why these steps are so necessary. While seniors have been among the most vulnerable to COVID impacts from a health standpoint, they are also more likely to have been on a fixed income as everything around them got more expensive.
From prescription deliveries to purchasing the tech you need for telehealth appointments, seniors have been hit hard over the past year. And reports are coming in of more Americans nearing retirement who are planning to claim Social Security earlier than expected because they’re unable to re-enter the workforce in their late 50s or early 60s. That’s why in addition to expanding the types of benefits that Medicare covers, these Senators have also called for the Medicare eligibility age to be lowered to 50.
Lowering the Medicare age would save lives! Doctors recommend increased screenings beginning at age 50, but our health care system does nothing to make that easier for most Americans until they turn 65 and can enroll in Medicare. There is a documented spike in cancer diagnoses among 65-year-olds who can finally access health screenings―cancers that would be caught earlier if they had access to Medicare.
President Biden can fix these problems as we rebuild America’s care infrastructure. Social Security Works is keeping seniors on the progressive agenda! Chip in $7 today!
Thanks,
Alex Lawson Social Security Works
