LGBTQ+ students face disproportionate levels of discrimination, harassment, and assault, with no federal protections to support them. As more than half of the states in the country try to pass anti-LGBTQ+ bills harming LGBTQ+ students across the country, these federal protections are more important than ever.

Last Friday, students participated in our Day of Silence, the largest student-led national protest supporting safe & inclusive schools. Through virtual and in-person activities, they made noise through their silence to highlight the struggles LGBTQ+ students experience. But our fight isn’t over. They still need our help to guarantee their safety and wellbeing in schools and beyond.

The Equality Act, a bill already passed by the U.S. House of Representatives, would provide these students with the protections they need to attend schools without fear of discrimination or violence. By establishing federal nondiscrimination protections for LGBTQ+ people in education, housing, employment, and more, LGBTQ+ students would be able to access the tools they need to thrive.

To protect LGBTQ+ students, regardless of their zip code, we need all the support we can get to pass this bill. Will you write a letter to your Senator and ask them to protect and preserve LGBTQ+ rights under the law? [[link removed]]

The opposition is still ahead, and it’s imperative that this bill passes — for every LGBTQ+ student, educator, and person denied the right to live as their truest selves. Day of Silence left a tremendous impact, but we must come together and continue the momentum by making our voices heard in support of the Equality Act. If this bill isn’t passed, LGBTQ+ students will keep being silenced, lacking the protections they need to be true to themselves.

Let’s join forces to help build learning environments that are safe for every student, no matter their sexual orientation or gender identity. Write to your Senator and tell them to vote “yes” on the Equality Act to ensure protection for all students under federal law. [[link removed]]
