The Hill:
"Voter suppression bills are the first move in a bigger battle"

The next move? You guessed it -- gerrymandering.

John -- We've explained how voter suppression and gerrymandering are pieces of the Republican strategy to maintain their minority rule. But it goes further than that -- voter suppression and gerrymandering are tools to minimize the political power specifically of Black Americans.

The author of an op-ed in The Hill writes that the "tests of boundaries" we're seeing with voter suppression legislation in states like Georgia "are only the beginning -- a mere prelude to a larger effort to weaken the political influence of African Americans... In the coming months, we should expect that many Republican legislatures will abuse [the redistricting] process, which will harm African American voters."

John, it's clearer than ever that ending the GOP's craven attacks on our democracy is a racial justice issue. We need your help to ensure fairness for all communities -- will you pitch in now?

Racial discrimination is something we have to fight on all fronts, particularly at a time when Republicans are trying to drag us back to the Jim Crow era. That means taking on voter suppression legislation clearly designed to hurt Black and brown communities -- at a time when white supremacy has festered under four years of Donald Trump. It means fighting on the state level against the "packing and cracking" of communities of color during redistricting. It also means saying explicitly: These practices are racist.

This battle will not be won overnight. As we are seeing, Republicans are determined to change the rules in their favor -- and we have to be just as determined to demand that the rules be fair. Can you pitch in to give us the resources to stay in this fight for as long as it takes?

Thanks,
Garrett
