Welcome to Tuesday, April 27th, colds and room-temps...

Indian hospitals are running out of oxygen as the country continues to be devastated by a second wave of coronavirus.

The situation is particularly dire in the nation's capital of New Delhi, which is experiencing one COVID-19 death in just under every four minutes. Crematoriums are over-capacity and asking grieving families to wait; some have melted from near-constant use.

The Delhi high court is pleading with the government to make emergency arrangements for medical supplies:

"It's a tsunami. How are we trying to build capacity?"

** Biden Is Not Banning Red Meat
------------------------------------------------------------

Republican members of Congress, Fox News, and conservative outlets spread falsehoods that President Joe Biden planned to limit meat consumption as part of his new plan to combat climate change.

Biden has not released any plans related to meat consumption and the White House has revealed very few specifics of its climate policy.

Without specifics, the Daily Mail turned to a 2020 University of Michigan study that laid out how dietary changes could lead to fewer greenhouse gas emissions. Headlined "How Biden's climate plan could limit you to eat just one burger a MONTH," the article included unsubstantiated claims that to meet Biden's plan, Americans would need to "cut 90% of red meat out of diet" and "only eat 4lbs a year."

Conservatives Reps. Lauren Boebert (CO) and Marjorie Taylor Greene (GA) lashed out at the president over the myth. Greene called him “The Hamburglar" and Boebert told the president to “stay out of my kitchen."

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack on Monday dismissed the falsehoods:

“There is no effort designed to limit people’s intake of beef coming out of President Biden’s White House or USDA. Sometimes in the political world, games get played and issues are injected into the conversation knowing full well that there’s no factual basis.”

Biden didn't say it, but would you give up some red meat to combat climate change? ([link removed])

** SCOTUS to Hear Case on Second Amendment Right to Carry Concealed Handguns
------------------------------------------------------------

The Supreme Court announced on Monday that it will take up a gun rights case concerning New York’s restrictions on concealed carry permits later this year, which sets up a potential landmark Second Amendment ruling next year.

New York law requires that a person applying for an unrestricted concealed carry license demonstrate “proper cause” exists for issuance of a license, including for target shooting, hunting, or self-defense.

Concealed carry license applications are considered and issued at the local level, such as by the county sheriff or court system, and interpretations of “proper cause” vary between localities in New York.

Known as New York Rifle & Pistol Association v. Corlett, the case before SCOTUS concerns whether New York state’s denial of the petitioners’ applications for concealed-carry licenses for self-defense violated the Second Amendment.
