Hi everyone,

This weekend, we held our monthly General Meeting! General Meetings are the most important meeting we hold each month - this is where we make decisions as a chapter and hear updates on important campaigns! Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to the democratic decision making process in our chapter. Excitingly, this was our first General Meeting with simultaneous English-Spanish interpretation. Save the date - Our May General Meeting will be on Thursday, May 27th @ 6:30 PM.

But in the meantime, the #DeepSouthDecrim campaign to decriminalize sex work in Louisiana is heating up! Our members traveled to Baton Rouge this weekend to talk to voters in a critical state legislative district, and we'll be going back up next weekend. Sign up here to join us. We anticipate that the bill will be heard in Committee very soon, so we need to keep the pressure up on the Committee members (sign up to phone zap the Committee here!). Can't make it up to Baton Rouge to knock doors? No worries, there are SO many ways to get involved in this campaign, check out this campaign checklist to learn all the ways you can help!

And on the national level, the fight for the PRO Act (the Protect the Right to Organize Act) is getting serious! Last week, our calls flipped Senator Manchin. We need to flip three more Senators to get the PRO Act to a floor vote in Congress! Our chapter is working to build support for the PRO Act locally. Sign the petition here to say that Louisiana needs the PRO Act! Want to learn more? Join us for a PRO Act Town Hall this Thursday at 6 PM to hear from speakers and leaders in the local labor movement about how the PRO Act will affect Louisiana.

Solidarity,

DSA New Orleans Local Council

P.S. New to DSA? Check out our chapter's new member resources here. You can also always email [email protected] with questions about how to get involved or about the work our chapter is doing. And if you're interested in joining our chapter's Slack, email [email protected].

Or not yet a member? The most important tool that the working class has is organization. We're strong when we fight together. We have to build a durable, mass political organization to wield the kind of power we need to win real change in our society. If you aren't a dues-paying member of DSA yet, join here

DSA Q+A feat. the PRO Act

As part of a special DSA Q&A call series featuring PRO Act organizers, we'll answer questions about the PRO Act and what DSA is doing to make sure this legislation passes, as well as any other questions people have about DSA in general.

During the first 100 days of the Biden administration, DSA has been going all in on a national push to pass the PRO Act, which would strengthen unions, root out racist & unjust labor practices like right-to-work laws, guarantee that immigrant workers have the same rights afforded to their fellow workers, build the power of all workers to organize on the job, and grow our collective capacity to win a just transition to a green economy for all in the years ahead.RSVP here
