Dear John,

The past twelve months have been tough, but the end is in sight.

Every day we make progress in our fight against Covid-19. Working in partnerships with the state and local organizations, Providence is administering thousands of vaccines across our city, beginning with those hardest hit and most vulnerable. Our goal is to vaccinate everyone who wants a vaccine as quickly, safely, and equitably as possible so that we can all move forward and put this pandemic behind us.

In preparing for a post-COVID world, I am hard at work doing what I can to support our small businesses and our residents. Building off our successes last year, we will expand our support to restaurants and businesses that offer outdoor dining and retail. We have waived fees associated with outdoor dining and retail and we’ve created a Special Events Team to assist small businesses in offering these COVID-safe experiences. We are building on the continued elimination of tangible taxes for 2600 of our small businesses and several other supports we’ve offered during the past year. I know that it’s been extremely hard for our small business community but I am resolved to help them survive and thrive as we emerge from the pandemic.

As the weather improves and construction season begins, I am excited about the infrastructure and parks investments we are making throughout the city. During my time in office, we have transformed our neighborhood parks system. I look forward to investing hundreds of millions of dollars into our roads, sidewalks and schools as well. We have an opportunity to literally change the landscape of our city, from Kennedy Plaza and radiating out to every neighborhood. Be on the lookout for neighborhood infrastructure investments throughout Providence.

John, I am personally inviting you to join me tomorrow at 6:15pm, as I present the Fiscal Year 2022 Budget Address to learn more about my future plans for the city.  As this time of hope blossoms, I am looking forward to seeing you around Providence and being able to chat with you in person. In the meantime, I want to thank you sincerely for your ongoing support. Stay safe and strong!

Sincerely,

Jorge
