What does Cory Gardner have in common with the leaders of China and Ukraine? Donald Trump is counting on all of them to help him win reelection.
While the President asks foreign governments for illegal assistance, Gardner will be in New York raising money for Trump’s campaign. Gardner is headlining this weekend’s retreat for the Trump Victory Committee.
That’s outrageous.
Trump is courting impeachment, and Congress should oblige him. Removing him from office and charging him for his crimes are the appropriate consequences.
But Gardner and his Republican colleagues face their own choice now: cling to power or put the nation’s interests first.
Gardner swore an oath not to the GOP or to Donald Trump but to the Constitution of the United States. He vowed to stand up to his party when his conscience—or our country—demanded it.
Let’s remind him to make good on that commitment.
