Dear John,
|
For years, fiscal hawks in Congress have wanted to cut Americans’ earned benefits under the guise of protecting or “reforming” Social Security and Medicare.
While we agree that we must address Social Security’s solvency issue, we don’t agree that you get there by slashing earned benefits!
As you know, the “TRUST Act” would create so-called “Rescue Committees” that could propose deep cuts to your earned benefits to help pay down soaring budget deficits. What’s worse, these committees would operate outside of regular order and their recommendations would be fast-tracked to the House and Senate floor — so there would be little opportunity for debate.
The “TRUST Act” does not require its “rescue committees” to consider the adequacy of current benefits — or the human impact of potential cuts. Retirees would be relegated to the status of figures on a balance sheet. This is not an acceptable outcome for older Americans who depend on their earned benefits just to make ends meet!
So please give what you can today to support our urgent campaign to prevent Social Security and Medicare cuts from being rammed through Congress by a select “committee.” As our past victories have shown, when National Committee members and supporters rally together for a cause they care about Congress will listen! |

Sincerely, |
