Friend --
Last week, a judge revoked bail for Ethan Bordean and Jason Biggs, members of the Proud Boys and leaders during the January 6 attack on the Capitol. The judge's reasoning? They are simply too dangerous to walk free.
“The defendants stand charged with seeking to steal one of the crown jewels of our country, in a sense, by interfering with the peaceful transfer of power. It's no exaggeration to say the rule of law and ... in the end, the existence of our constitutional republic is threatened by it.” -- Judge Timothy Kelly
We've written to you about the Proud Boys before. Members of this white supremacist militia showed up to the Capitol insurrection with paramilitary gear, handheld radios, and a strategy to attack doors with fewer Capitol guards. We're glad to see the criminal justice system taking their threat seriously and not allowing them to walk free.
To fight back against the growing power and influence of these once-fringe groups, we're going to need to make sure our leaders in Congress are doing everything in their power to shed light on their treacherous activities.
Most of the Republicans in Congress voted against certifying the 2020 election even after our Capitol was attacked. At best, those Republicans are not up to the job of holding back the Proud Boys. At worst, they're representing the Proud Boys' interests in our government.
