Mad, colleagues, and staff continue to confront the events of January 6th

"I really want to say publicly that the big lie and the continuation of by our top elected officials on the other side make everyone in this country unsafe. It's not just about electeds like Congresswoman Jayapal and me. It is about our staff. It is about the very Capitol itself."

Mad knows restricting our right to vote is shameful.

"These are shameful moves by a Republican Party that is shrinking and desperate to claim power, they would disenfranchise primarily people of color or people who are poor or anybody else who gets in the way of their attempt at power."

Mad is fighting on behalf of disabled students

"[A constituent's] daughter had become totally disabled and she was left with the remaining balance of her private student loans as the cosigner. The lending company said they would forgive the loan for the borrower, but not for the cosigner – so we wrote H.R. 2498 to [...] ensure student loan borrowers are protected."

Mad believes "the study of reparations is the reasonable thing to do."

Rep. Madeleine Dean, D-Pa., vice chair of the House Judiciary Committee, told USA TODAY late Tuesday that she hoped there would be openness to have real discussions on the question and asked: "Hasn't the last year educated us or reeducated us about injustices, the historical injustices?"

Mad continues to advocate for commonsense gun violence legislation

Mad twice helped pass legislation calling for universal background checks, and for closing the so-called "Charleston Loophole" allowing for some gun sales before the completion of a background check.

"We passed that in the last Congress, February 2019, and it went nowhere in the Senate and we just passed it again two weeks ago."
