Friend,

Overview (a 9-second scan):

• Young people are engaged on issues and lean Democratic
• They're also the least likely to vote
• Minnesota GOP plans a 10x increase in voter contact
• Engaging new voters is key to re-electing Dean -- and creating the future young people need and deserve
• Will you donate now and help us engage young voters?

The challenges young people face today are daunting.

School violence has not only resulted in an unfathomable loss of life, but it's also traumatized an entire generation.

They must also grapple with a deeply uncertain future as the Trump administration not only denies the existence of climate change but rolls back environmental regulations intended to mitigate the very worst of its impacts.

Young people are angry, they're afraid -- and rightfully so.

If engaging young people in the 2020 election is important to you, will you donate now?

All across this country, students have organized; they've spoken out for change. We only need to look to March for Our Lives and the Global Climate Strike for evidence of that.

Yet, while young people are civically engaged in many powerful ways -- and turnout among young voters jumped 20% in 2018 over 2014 -- they still represent the least likely among us to cast a ballot on Election Day.

Why is that?

The young people we talk to sense that the urgency they feel is minimized by parents, mentors, and community leaders.

And, when they see Congress stall on the issues most critical to them despite overwhelming public support, the message they receive is that their votes don't matter.

Feeling powerless and unheard, they don't show up.

That's why Dean has worked so hard to create spaces for young people, to welcome them to the conversation. In fact, during the 2018 campaign, he regularly hosted round tables and engaged high school students in serious policy discussions about climate change and gun violence.

What did those students do?

They organized within their own schools. They marched in parades. They knocked doors.

We simply couldn't have gotten as far as we did without them.

Now, as we look forward to the 2020 election, we must empower their participation again.

Action on existential issues hangs in the balance, and the GOP is working to drive voter turnout that -- if successful -- could block the forward progress we need.

In fact, Minnesota GOP Chair, Jennifer Carnahan, has called for a 10x increase in voter contacts over the last election cycle -- and she's leveraging Dean's leadership on the impeachment inquiry to drive momentum.

That's why we need to ensure the 7 million Americans who will become eligible to vote for the first time -- new voters who lean heavily Democratic -- recognize that the power to shape our future lies with them.

If they turn out, they could tip the scales on races up-and-down the ballot.

That's why we're not only encouraging young people to register to vote but to work with us as, together, we build the future they need and deserve. That's what an inclusive democracy looks like, after all, and it's a mission The Dean Team lives every day.

So, if you know a young person that might be interested in joining The Dean Team as a campaign organizer, intern, or volunteer -- encourage them to reach out. There's a place for them here.

And, if you see the value in engaging and empowering young voters as we do, we hope you'll consider donating to Dean's campaign and powering this critical work.
