John,
As part of the Heifer community, you know our mission well. Not only does Heifer provide families with life-changing animals, but we also teach them how to care for those animals and their land, provide farming equipment and teach them to pass on knowledge to others in need.
But the pandemic complicated everything. Take Uganda, where public transportation shut down and curfews were put in place. Farmers couldn't get products to market ... they couldn't receive equipment ... group training sessions were at risk.

But none of that fazed Leah Amongi. Leah is only 28. She's a single mother. And she's leading her community through the pandemic.

Using what Heifer taught her, Leah teaches farmers how to build sustainable and profitable farming businesses — a job she doesn't take lightly. When public transport closed and taxis gouged their prices, she bought her own motorcycle to deliver farming equipment and personal protective equipment to those in need. She figured out how to conduct COVID-safe trainings. She hasn't stopped caring for the farmers who count on her, and she never will.
Thanks to Heifer, women around the world are taking matters into their own hands. They are hardworking and determined — and with compassionate people like you beside them, there’s no telling how far they’ll go.
With gratitude,
Kimberly Perrow
