MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT: I’m officially running for Governor of South Carolina!

In 2018, we shocked the political world when we pulled off a stunning
upset in a “safe” Republican district the GOP typically carries by 15-30%.

We flipped control of the House with our victory and as a member of
Congress, it was my honor to bring my expertise as an ocean engineer to
the floor to introduce, and pass, a historic bill to ban offshore drilling
on our coasts.

This past year has been difficult for so many of us. But instead of
listening to public health experts and providing relief to struggling
families, GOP Governor McMaster was more focused on scoring political
points and playing politics with our lives.

That’s got to change. Which is why I wanted you to be the first to know I
am running for Governor.

We’re going to be running this campaign a little differently than most:

Over the next upcoming weeks and months I will be personally traveling to
every single one of South Carolina’s 46 counties. No mom-and-pop business
or town is too small for our campaign: It’s going to take time and work
but the people of this state deserve that (at the very least!).

I want everyone in the state to have the chance to meet with me so they
can share their ideas, their struggles, their stories — and so I can share
with them mine about how we’re going to move our state forward.

Some people say a Democrat can’t win in South Carolina. I heard the same
thing in 2018 — I was told I didn’t have a chance — and then we won a
district Trump carried by 13 points.

Republicans and Democrats in South Carolina overwhelmingly agree: We need
to expand Medicaid, pay our teachers more, make voting more accessible,
protect our beaches, and fix these damn roads! As Governor, that’s exactly
what I’ll do.
